On our twelve-day 2005 whisky trail (July 28 - Aug 8) through Scotland we saw and photographed more than 40 distilleries, we enjoyed the warm welcome
in the visitor centre or shop in 22 distilleries, and participated 9 guided tours and even more tastings.
Just as each single malt is unique and
has its own quality, its own nose and taste, each distillery has its own character and specialities. Even the nineth guided tour
was still full of surprises and some new information (and a good amount of Scottish humour).
I could have spent months in investigating the Scottish distillery scene, but unfortunately
our time schedule was quite narrow. Nevertheless we tried our best to get the most out of it while still enjoying the calm, spiritful, meditative,
enlightening places in the Highlands, in Speyside, and on the isle of Islay.
