Personal view: | Gordon&MacPhail is not a distillery, but I include it here because that company is quite important for the history of single malts. They provided the fans with single malt bottlings in times when not most but all of the production of many distilleries was used for blends. Most whisky fans today will know Gordon&MacPhail for their long list of independent bottlings, like their "Connoisseurs Choice" series. Few outside Scotland will know about their shop, so I include some pictures here. |
Shopping at Gordon&MacPhail: | When walking through Elgin we climbed a hill. Looking around we discovered the Gordon&MacPhail buildings. (The new main building is called George House.) We descended and at the building we noticed an exact plan how to find the shop from there, either by foot or by car. We followed the suggested path and after 5 minutes we stood before what I regard is the most interesting, most complete whisky shop. Maybe the most complete whisk(e)y shop of the world. Not only do they have all their countless own bottlings of the Scottish single malts, not only most original Scottish single malt bottlings as well, but they have all kinds of whisky of all around the world. The was the first time I saw those Japanese whiskies often praised in the whisky books. But all the American and Canadian whiskey types are there, Irish too, of course, and others. Overwhelming! - We visited the shop twice, complementing our collection with some bottles of distilleries who have no shop. |
