Tools for Knowledge ManagementYellow and Blue Pages |
First we shape our tools, then our tools shape us.

WHAT | Yellow and Blue Pages are knowledge management tools for encouraging knowledge sharing. |
WHY | This tool aims at improving the knowledge flow and knowledge sharing by publishing the adepts' expertise as well as their telephone number and/or e-mail-address. |
HOW | Yellow Pages are often found in intranets where employees describe
their knowledge domains. Historical data (name, address, telephone
number, e-mail-address and the like) may be loaded from a central
data base regularly. Every employee cares for the maintenance of
his/her personal profile. Blue Pages are pages where the profiles of external service providers are outlined in order to find more easily the right partner for activities which cannot be done by internal personnel. |
Example | At Siemens AG they are allowed to
define a link to their private(!) homepage or to offer a FAQ-list for
their knowledge domains. Novartis was the first company which defined Blue Pages as described above. |
